Greening the Environment, Saving Lives
Mosaic’s 360° mobile mapping camera technology enables efficient, economical, and reliable data capture to support sustainable development.
Mosaic is proud to announce its partnership with the Kogi State Agro Climate Resilience in the Semi-Arid Landscapes (KGS-ACReSAL) Project, an initiative funded by the World Bank in partnership with the Kogi State Government.
The project will utilize the Mosaic 51 Mobile Mapping Camera System to conduct comprehensive environmental surveys of agricultural fields in Nigeria’s semi-arid regions, particularly Kogi State. This data will support critical decisions that drive sustainable agricultural and environmental development.
The project is part of Nigeria’s broader goal to restore 1 million hectares of degraded land by 2030, helping both agriculture and communities become more resilient to climate risks.
The Kogi State ACReSAL Project focuses on enhancing resilience to climate change while promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Integrating the Mosaic 51 camera will enable the project team to collect high-resolution 360° imagery, allowing them to monitor vast agricultural landscapes with unmatched precision.
“The Mosaic 51 Mobile Mapping Camera System is not only economical and easy to use, but also designed to perform in the most demanding environments. This robust solution is the perfect fit for the Kogi State ACReSAL Project, helping them capture the critical data they need to support environmental sustainability.”
Lynn Puzzo, Director of Sales & Marketing at Mosaic.
Efficient and Economical Surveying
Mosaic’s flagship camera, the “M51” system, is recognized for its user-friendly design and low operational costs, making it accessible for teams of all skill levels. The ease of use means that the Kogi State ACReSAL team can quickly deploy the technology without extensive training, while its cost-effectiveness ensures more frequent and widespread data collection.
As part of ensuring a smooth launch for the 200 hectares of afforestation intervention by Kogi State ACReSAL, the project coordinator hosted experts in forest management alongside forestry officials from the Ministry of Environment, as well as retired directors from the ministry. This inclusive approach aims to ensure robust project implementation. The project’s tagline reflects its broader mission:
"Kogi ACReSAL... Greening the environment... Saving lives!"
Reliable for Any Environment
Built to withstand the challenges of Nigeria’s semi-arid climate, the Mosaic 51 camera system provides reliable performance in harsh conditions. Whether it’s dust, heat, or uneven terrain, Mosaic’s robust design ensures continuous operation, helping the Kogi State ACReSAL Project stay on track with its environmental goals.
The technology is set to be deployed between late October and early November 2024. This is a key milestone, with the Mosaic 51 system playing a critical role in collecting comprehensive data to support Kogi State’s climate resilience and environmental sustainability goals.
The deployment of Mosaic’s 51 Mobile Mapping Camera System coincides with key phases of the Kogi State ACReSAL project. This includes the ongoing restoration of 200 hectares of land and the expansion of irrigation systems to support dry-season farming across 11 locations in the state.
Value to the Community
The data captured by the Mosaic 51 camera will be essential in driving agricultural and environmental improvements in Kogi State. The imagery will enable better land use planning, optimize farming practices, and contribute to greater food security for local communities.
Through the ACReSAL project, 200 hectares of degraded land are being restored in Kogi State. Local farmers, like those in Ankpa and Kabba Bunu LGAs, are learning sustainable, climate-smart farming techniques, significantly increasing maize production and improving the livelihoods of over 1,400 community members. Additionally, the project provides drought-resistant seedlings, irrigation tools, and essential training to ensure long-term agricultural productivity and food security for the community.
The ACReSAL Project seeks to increase the adoption of sustainable landscape management practices in targeted watersheds in Northern Nigeria and strengthen Nigeria’s long-term framework for integrated climate resilient management. This was the reason for acquiring a 360-degree Mobile Mapping Camera Technology.
“Aiming to rid Kogi State of the menace of gully erosion, land degradation, flooding, and desertification. We are poised to effectively sustain landscapes across Kogi State, while striving to uplift livelihoods.
Our participation in the ACReSAL Project has opened the doors for greater interventions beyond gully erosion control. We are now addressing ecosystem balancing through the rejuvenation of degraded forest reserves and promoting climate change mitigation interventions that uplift the poorest of the poor in Kogi State.”
